Qsec Mesh Grilles

A property in Leamington Spa with boarded up windows. Would the Qsec Mesh Grilles have been the prefered solution to boarding?

The QSec Mesh Grille

As with many European countries the UK has a problem with vandalism. The mindless act of damaging property purely for the fun of it is a problem that is here to stay. Vandalism not only costs thousands of pounds a year to clean up and repair but also has a social impact on communities. From graffiti to actual physical damage to property especially the breaking of windows using stones etc, it's more than just a nuisance!

Traditionally to prevent windows being broken into a straight bar prison style wrought iron grille would be used. This certainly puts off the opportunist burglar but offers no deterrent to vandalism as stones and other missiles can easily pass between the bars and still break the glass. Other disadvantages include the aesthetics of the grille plus the maintenance involved painting it on a regular occurrence. The other option would be to install a roller shutter. Shutters installed over shop windows etc certainly offer good security and prevent any vandalism to the glass etc behind but can actually be used as a platform for graffiti and fly posters. In fact some areas can really start to look like a ghetto when shutters are plastered with posters and unsightly graffiti.

So What’s The Solution?

Firstly the protection needs to be installed externally if it is to protect the glass. We have mentioned the more traditonal types of security wrought iron grilles and shutters. What we need is a security grille that acts as a strong physical deterrent but also is aesthetically pleasing.

The QSec Mesh Security/Anti-Vandal Grille is the ideal product for this situation. Designed to protect the glass in both windows and doors it is light weight yet extremely strong. The QSec Mesh is constructed from 1.5mm galvanised steel sheet drilled with 4mm diameter holes to create a perforated appearance. It is then mounted within an aluminium frame. The grille can be either installed within the reveal of the opening or to the face of the opening. Fixing holes in the frame are secure with colour matched plastic bungs The QSec Mesh grille can be powder coated to match existing window frames but more often than not it is left black. The reason for this when installed and viewed from a distance the grille resembles tinted glass, and in fact when looked at from inside the building the grille is almost invisible.

The QSec Mesh has two levels of security, QSec Mesh Economy and the QSec Mesh LPC. The QSec Mesh Economy uses 1.5mm thick steel with 4mm diameter holes but is mounted in a slightly smaller aluminium frame. This makes the product slightly cheaper so ideally suited to low risk security high risk vandal areas. Especially useful for schools or health centres where there are numerous windows at risk.

If you have a problem with vandalism but also want to increase the security of your doors and windows then the QSec Mesh LPCB Approved Security Grille is the right product for you. Rigorously tested to LPS 1175 this is an extremely versatile grille used extensively in schools and hospitals where a permanently fixed high security grille is required but also is visually appealing. Made from slightly heavier duty sheet steel at 2mm thick and mounted within a stronger frame than the QSec Economy Mesh Grille it still offers all the same advantages including the option of being powder coated any colour and being near invisible when viewed.

Other products available within the same range include the QSec Polycarbonate Screen and the QSec Dual Mesh/Polycarbonate Grille

The QSec Polycarbonate Screen uses a 5mm thick clear polycarbonate sheet mounted within an aluminium frame. In tests the polycarbonate is rated at being 200-300 times stronger than standard glass and resists attacks from stones and hand tools from burglary and vandalism. Being totally clear in appearance it mimics a normal glass window but benefits from being extremely tough. For the ultimate protection the QSec Dual Mesh/Polycarbonate Grille is the product you require. Using a combination of the 1.5mm drilled steel sheet and the 5mm thick polycarbonate this grille is the ultimate in security.

So whether it's to protect your windows and doors from burglary or mindless vandalism QSec have the right product for you.
