Windows are often left open for ventilation, however to a small child the open window is a temptation which could jeopardise their safety. The QSec Child Safety Barrier has been specifically designed and purpose made to protect children under the age of five from falling from or climbing out of windows. The barrier allows windows to remain open but prevents accidents from happening.

The unique barrier is made to order from steel and finished with a high quality white powder coating. If required, there are a choice of other colours available, please ask us for details. The barrier can be fitted internally across the front of a window or alternatively fitted to the reveal. Fitting is easy thanks to the adjustable fixing arms on each corner. It has a height of 800mm and the infill bars are vertical, which prevents a child from climbing on it. As with stair gates, spacing between the bars is 65mm, this offers additional safety and prevents entrapment.

There are child resistant keyless camlocks fitted to the top corners and in order to remove the barrier from the window both locks have to be released. As the barrier is fitted into the window, the situation of escaping from a fire was given careful consideration. As a result, the barrier complies with the recommended standards set by the Fire Safety Committee and approved by Fire Safety Officers. This means in the case of fire or emergency the barrier can be removed easily and quickly.

Research was conducted with a range of organisations that specialise in the safety of children, including the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) and the Department of Trade and Industry. The Child Safety Barrier was produced as a result of this research and designed not only to comply with current child safety regulations but also to bring peace of mind. With regard to the fitting of safety barriers to prevent falling, the barrier complies with the guidance specified in Part K2 of the Building Regulations 2000 as read with BS 6180:1999. In accordance with the requirements set out in Part B1 of the Building Regulations which concern fire safety, the barrier is removable and is fitted with keyless locks. The locks also comply with BSEN 1930:2000 and as an added precaution the spacing between the bars complies with that specified in BSEN 1930:2000. After conducting a risk assessment on the safety barrier it was declared a ‘safe product’ by RoSPA. The risk level was also classed by RoSPA as ‘trivial’ which is the lowest category.

The QSec Child Safety Barrier can be used on any window that a child has access to but is ideally suitable for low height windows, particularly in play rooms, play areas and nurseries.

Sizes Available

The QSec Child Safety Barrier is suitable for any casement window or sliding window from 200mm to 1600mm in width and with a minimum height of 890mm.

Standard widths are up to 500mm, 600mm, 700mm, 800mm, 900mm, 1000mm, 1100mm, 1100mm, 1200mm, 1300mm, 1400mm, 1500mm and 1600mm. The barrier has a height of 800mm. For widths over 1600mm please get in touch to discuss your requirements with us.
